"Get Out The Vote"

October 29, 2025

Dear Wahoos,

After Friday’s Faculty Senate meeting, we still have many unanswered questions about UVA’s agreement with the Department of Justice. Many of you have shared your concerns, and the question we hear most often is this:

If UVA doesn’t have to change anything as a result of the DOJ agreement, why was President Jim Ryan pressured to resign?

Without evidence of proven civil-rights violations requiring corrective action, it seems clear his forced resignation was completely unnecessary.

We’ll continue to press for accountability and transparency in our future messages. But this week, we’d like to focus on something different.

It’s easy to feel disillusioned and frustrated with the state of affairs in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This has been a challenging year, and it’s tempting to give in to despair.

Please don’t.

As citizens in a democracy, there is always something we can do. The most powerful way to shape the future — of UVA, Virginia, and our nation — is by voting.

Wahoos4UVA is a non-partisan community. We are proud to include alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents, and friends from across the political spectrum. Whether you lean left, right, or somewhere in between, we share a common belief in civic responsibility, academic freedom, and the democratic process.

So please — cast your vote. No matter your party or perspective, your voice matters.

As Wahoos, we believe in the power of engaged citizens.

Vote — because democracy works only when we do.
