"A New Academic Year – Stand with UVA’s Deans and Faculty"

August 27, 2025

Dear Wahoos4UVA Supporters,

This week marks the start of a new academic year at UVA. New students have

moved in, signed the Honor Pledge, and begun forming lifelong friendships,

while returning students are back to continue their academic journeys. The

rhythm of teaching, learning, and research begins again, led by dedicated

faculty, staff, and administrators whose work deserves our full support as the

semester begins.

Even amid the summer’s turmoil and ongoing governance crisis, UVA’s deans,

faculty, and staff remain focused on delivering an exceptional education and

supporting students through uncertainty. The Board of Visitors has lost the

confidence of faculty and students, but the University’s mission endures. It’s up

to the rest of us to ensure the University has the support it needs to deliver the

world’s best educational experience to its students, and to protect the

university from political interference that would infringe upon academic

freedom.

We invite you to take two important steps this week:

1. Write to your Dean.

Reach out to the dean of the school you attended (or your child’s school if

you are a parent). Write them a note thanking them for their leadership and

for the hard work and dedication of their faculty and staff. Let them know

that you have their back during this moment of crisis in UVA’s history. The

Deans will appreciate your note of support! A list of email addresses for the

Deans appears below:

2. Make an unrestricted gift.

This is a crucial time to support your school financially. Unrestricted annual

funds give Deans flexibility when other funding is at risk or when urgent

new initiatives arise. A strong show of support now communicates to UVA’s

Deans that our community is united behind them and that we value their

work and their leadership. You can choose the recipient of your donation

here: Donate!

We are grateful that you signed up to receive these weekly email

communications and recommendations for action. If you have friends or family

who would be interested in hearing from us, please share this and encourage

them to sign up on our website:
